Global Day Of Prayer 2014

2014年06月11日

The focus of Global Day Of Prayer this year was on one thing: FIRST THINGS FIRST. This is essentially recognising that we have a crisis, and that is the need to put our house in order. What is this crisis, you may ask? They are busyness, barrenness and blindness.

“In contemporary society, our adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry and crowds. If he [the devil] can keep us engaged in ‘muchness’ and ‘manyness’ he will rest satisfied,” said Christian theologian and author, Richard Foster. In Singapore, we’re so used to the hustle and bustle that we hurry about our day out of pure habit, so much so that our souls are overcrowded. Because we’re relying on ourselves, our branches are bare and we are not bearing fruit. Most of all, we’re living in injustice and immorality – utterly blind to our conscience.

This year’s Global Day Of Prayer established that FIRST THINGS FIRST, we need to drop out of the rat race and return to God, and by doing so, renew intimacy with God. Senior Pastor Lawrence Khong’s sermon on “Strength to Strength” brought to light three ways we can rebuild our relationship with God.

First, we need to enjoy being in God’s presence as Psalm 84:10 writes, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

Next, we need to develop a pilgrim’s mindset. A pilgrim is one who lives as an alien or a stranger in this world. He lives for the Kingdom of God and not for the kingdom of this earth. A pilgrim’s work is never accomplished until he sees God face to face.

Last, we need to rely on God’s power. The Psalmist says in Psalm 84:12, “Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.” Indeed, if we rely on our own strength, nothing is possible; but if we trust in God and His strength, everything is possible.

It was inspiring to see Christians gathered as one body, regardless of denomination, congregating for the same cause – to save the lost and usher in the Kingdom of God. Indeed, the body of Christ is all set to welcome the YEAR OF JUBILEE in 2015!
