Rescued from the Brink of Death

A twelve-inch stab wound, and mere moments from the brink of death

“A twelve-inch stab wound, and mere moments from the brink of death. To walk out of this horror and to lead a meaningful life again, this is truly a work of miracle from God.” Jennifer Kua shared with us of how God rescued her colleague from death, and turned a tragedy into a life-changing testimony about His grace and healing.

In January 2010, my colleague, Prakash, who was then a non-believer, was robbed and stabbed in Malaysia. His injury was life-threatening, as he lost blood through his mouth and nose and had a gaping wound that would expose his intestine from his stomach. He knew that he would die at any moment. He tried to stop a passing motorist but was ignored. Just before he passed out, he recounted that he saw a ray of light shining brightly down on him. When his family found him at the hospital, he was in a coma, and was hooked up to the life support system.

Immediately upon hearing about the stabbing from another colleague, I was worried. I decided to call his sister and was updated on his condition. Having heard this, a few Christian colleagues and I gathered together to pray for him. All this time, we put our faith in Him and trusted Him to lay His healing hands on Prakash. We prayed in earnest for Prakash’s recovery at every lunch break. We also continued to share and pray during our weekly prayer meeting which we conduct at our workplace.

After a week of prayers, we were informed by Prakash’s sister that he had opened his eyes briefly, before lapsing back into coma again. Despite hearing this, we didn’t give up nor were we discouraged. We continued to believe that God will heal him one day and our faith remains as strong as the day we started to pray.

Another week passed, and we received a call from Prakash’s sister. He had awoken from his coma, though still very weak and dependent on the breathing apparatus. Prakash was not able to speak but he was able to follow the conversations of his family who were with him at the hospital. He cried when he learnt that we were praying for him everyday! Shortly after, he was able to get up from the hospital bed and walked. We were overwhelmed with joy when we heard this good news.

Praise the Lord! We are all very thankful for His love and mercy. Today, Prakash (who used to be a non-believer) attends our weekly prayer meeting. Thinking about it - a twelve-inch stab wound and mere moments from the brink of death. To walk out of this horror and to lead a meaningful life again, this is truly a work of miracle from God. It has proven beyond doubt that God is indeed "Jehovah Rapha," our Healer, and He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Hallelujah!
