Moving On

Dear family,
I want to share a verse from 1 Samuel 16:1, which spoke to me deeply last week:

“The Lord said to Samuel, ‘How long will you mourn for Saul, since
I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and
be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem.
I have chosen one of his sons to be king.’”

Have we not all been in this position before? Like Prophet Samuel, a true man of faith, we sometimes stubbornly cling to our past and become reluctant to move into the beautiful future that God has planned for us.

Change is not easy. Many of us can testify of facing prolonged sorrow and pain when our ‘perfect plan’ goes awry. We wonder if anything can replace it and question if God can do better. We constantly relive that past situation and ponder what went wrong.

While these disappointments are real, God tells us to “fill your horn with oil and be on your way.” He longs for us to move on into the plan that He has destined for our lives, rather than wallow in the past, or worse, take things into our own hands. God has new relationships and opportunities lying ahead of us. All we need to do is take that step of faith. So instead of worrying over what could have been, let’s move in line with what God has planned.

I pray for each of you to no longer mourn for the ‘Saul’ in your life. Instead, let’s open our ears and hearts to the beautiful and unwavering voice of God who’s calling us to “be on your way, move on.
