Old Testament Overview Part 1

Registration Period: 1 March – 1 April 2025

Objective

  1. To highlight core aspects of the Old Testament such as Creation, Abrahamic Covenant, the Sinaitic Covenant, the Davidic Covenant, the nation of Israel and prophecies pertaining to the Messiah (Jesus).
  2. To enable participants to follow the story between God and His people Israel, in the Old Testament, as it unfolds, particularly from the 8th to the 5th century BC.

Session 1
This lesson will cover the first five books of the Old Testament Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy highlighting God’s covenant with His people, the nation of Israel, at Mount Sinai.

Session 2
This lesson will compare the Old Testament books in our Protestant Bible versus that of the Hebrew Old Testament which Jesus used. It seeks to have a birds-eye view of the key events in the Old Testament leading up to the coming of the Messiah in the New Testament. This lesson will also cover the story of God and His people, Israel, from the time of their deliverance in Egypt at around 1446 BC until the time the last book Malachi written in 430 BC.

Session 3
This lesson will cover the following books: Joshua, Judges, 1&2 Samuel and 1&2 Kings. It also includes books like Jonah, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah and Micah who are prophets active in the 8th century BC. Significant prophecies pertaining to the 1st and 2nd Coming of Christ, and the new covenant will be highlighted.

Session 4
This lesson will cover the other books in the Old Testament for the prophets active in the 7th to 5th centuries BC and any related books that would have been written or read during that timing as well. Significant prophecies pertaining to the 1st and 2nd Coming of Christ, and the new covenant will be highlighted for books written in the 7th to 5th centuries BC.
