Synopsis
What is Systematic Theology?
It is the methodical study of Christian doctrine that organizes the teachings of the Bible into distinct, logical categories. It compiles what the entire Bible says about a specific topic (e.g., God, sin, or salvation) to create a coherent framework of beliefs.
Why Systematic Theology matter?
Systematic theology goes beyond just knowing isolated verses. It builds a complete worldview, which helps believers answer complex questions, guard against doctrinal errors or false teachings, and apply their faith practically to daily life.
The Core Branches of Systematic Theology
Systematic theology is typically divided into ten major categories, often called "doctrines".
- Bibliology: The study of the Bible, its inspiration, and its authority.
- Theology Proper: The study of God the Father, His attributes, and His existence.
- Christology: The study of the person and work of Jesus Christ.
- Pneumatology: The study of the Holy Spirit, His gifts, and His role in the world.
- Angelology: The study of angels, as well as demons and Satan.
- Anthropology: The study of humanity, including our creation in the image of God.
- Hamartiology: The study of sin, its origin, and its consequences.
- Soteriology: The study of salvation and how it is achieved.
- Ecclesiology: The study of the Christian Church, its purpose, and its practices.
- Eschatology: The study of the "end times," including death, the afterlife, and the return of Christ.
Objectives
- To introduce the process of Systematic Theology to church members using core Bible narratives in chronological occurrence to enable learning on the numerous topics of Systematic Theology.
- To help church members anchor their faith in God through the teachings of the Bible in a holistic manner.
