Love From The Stars: Star Talk

Thursday, November 12, 2015

As Love From The Stars draws nearer, perhaps it’s time to learn more about the stars we’ll soon be seeing in person at the concert. We’ve had the privilege of speaking to two local celebrities, Under One Roof’s Moses Lim and upcoming production The Revenge Queen’s Apple Hong.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that the public doesn’t already know?

Moses: 22 years ago, I was one of the few television celebrities to pioneer and organise gourmet overseas tours. The highest record I had was having a total of eight coaches full of food lovers in just one tour! Through years of experience, I strongly believe that the number of participants in each tour comes from God. This is especially so when I used to come across unforeseen incidents during tours, that’s when I would realise that if the number of participants was big, many unpleasant matters might not be easily resolved. Thus, whenever I organise gourmet tours, I would pray to God for the number of participants He permits, rather than the number that I desire.

Apple: In the past, I was naive, impulsive and a very trusting person. I was also a risk taker in terms of investment. There was once I lost a six-digit sum of money in an investment after trusting in a friend. However, God changed me after I accepted Christ! I’ve become more prudent and astute in investments and in all that I do, I would seek God’s guidance before I make any decisions. This is the verse that I cling on to: “My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.” (Psalm 25:15, NIV)

What are you currently busy with?

Apple: I am currently working on a drama called “The Revenge Queen” (复仇女王) by Wawa Production. My role in this drama is different from my previous role as a villain. Here, I portray a pitiful housewife whose husband cheated on her. This character in the story learned to be strong and moved on to help other women who faced the same plight as her. The producer of “The Revenge Queen” offered me this role intentionally in hopes of changing public perception of me as a villain, which may have been deeply rooted in the audience’s minds after my previous roles. Praise the Lord! Now, I have a second chance to let the public see a different side of me!

Could you tell us more about your role and participation in Love From the Stars?

Moses: My role is small and simple, however, I’ll definitely do my best to perform and interpret what the scriptwriter wants to express.

Apple: I’ll be performing in group songs and dances, as well as a skit. I definitely need God’s grace to remember all the dance moves! As for the skit, come and see for yourself what role I’ll be playing!

What are some challenges you face as a Christian celebrity, and how do you overcome them?

Moses: In the arts and entertainment world, temptations are great and often result in many misunderstandings, or false news due to gossip. It is challenging for me to avoid or ignore them. Thus, it is of utmost importance to go to God in prayer whenever such incidents occur.

Apple: We cannot blindly accept any role or assignment given to us. As a Christian artiste, I have to look deeper into the plot, for example, the moral of the story, or whether the role conveys any wrong teachings or values. For instance, once I was a host for a variety programme on CCTV6, which featured a foreign actress in China, Yantai. At one of the film sites, which was a temple, I had to hold incense sticks and worship the idols. At that time, I struggled as to whether I should make a stand. Eventually, as this is contrary to my Christian beliefs, I mustered my courage and explained to the director that I was unable to worship the idols due to my religion. It turned out that the director was very understanding and respected my faith! Thank God!
