Hokkien Ministry: An Interview with Pastor Daniel & Patsy Gan

What would you like to say to our Hokkien members?
Pastor Daniel: My dear Hokkien members, from just the testimony of Ng Ngian How & Monica, God is telling us, “He cares!” In Matthew 6, God says, “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear… Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Our God will definitely take care of our needs. As we serve in church, sacrificing our time and money, God wants to tell us He remembers all that we’ve done and will pour out blessings in multiples of 30, 60 or even 100 times. We’re deeply encouraged that our Hokkien members are always prepared, ready to help, without being called. Therefore, I encourage all of us, let’s continue to be faithful and serve the Lord. God knows what you need, and He will surely restore you and bless you with all that you need. Rise up above your needs, be it relationships, finance or health, and tell God, “I am willing to be Your vessel and do Your work”, and He will surely bless you!

Pastor Patsy: God loves everyone unconditionally. Do not be afraid of what you do not have or do not know, as long as you have a willing heart, God is able to use you mightily to fulfill His plans. Therefore, do not fear!

What’s so special about the Hokkien Celebration Service?
Pastor Daniel: It’s warm and cheerful! Everybody is smiling! Our worship is vibrant, though majority of our members are the elderly, so it is certainly not boring! And we have always encouraged our members to come forward to share their prayer needs at the end of service. Our pastors and leaders always make it a point to pray for all individuals who come forward regardless of when service ends. I believe this simple yet caring gesture is what makes our service an attractive place for families to worship together.

What would you say to our new friends who are looking for a place to worship in Hokkien?
Pastor Daniel: If you have parentswho prefer to worship in Hokkien, we encourage you to bring them here!Other than our elderly members, we also have a small group of ex-convicts who join our service as well. They are real-life, amazing testimonies of how God can transform lives after you encounter Him and live out your faith. Every message that is preached at the Hokkien service is aligned to our church’s vision; it is the same one that’s preached at the English and Mandarin services. The message is simplified for better understanding, yet equally powerful. We focus more on application, rather than theories. If you’re someone who likes to put your faith into action, come join us! FCBC’s Hokkien Celebration Service is definitely The Place To Be!

How can one serve in the Hokkien Ministry?
Pastor Daniel: Apart from Hospitality and Security, we also have a Special People Ministry and Premier Cell for the physically handicapped. We need more hands to serve in leading the Word, prayers, and even helping to wheel those in wheelchairs around. Join us in loving and serving God by lending a hand to those in need! 1 John 3:17-18 says, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
