The Great Commission

It was Charles Spurgeon who said, “Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.” Those words are so true. We have been called to be Christ-like, and if that is truly our desire, then we will be missionaries. Because Jesus Christ is a missionary.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, His final words to us were to make disciples of all nations. Last words are often meant to be lasting words. With these words, we were commissioned to fulfill a most sacred duty – preaching the gospel to the nations. This is why I know that FCBC’s missions month has definitely been something divine. God is reminding our church of this sacred duty, not just to Singapore, but to the nations of the world.

As we end off our missions month, my prayer is that we will seek God to fire up our hearts for the Great Commission. So, what should we pray for specifically? Two things – pray for a great conviction and a great compassion. Truly, I believe that these are two key prerequisites for fulfilling the Great Commission. When Jesus saw the multitudes, He was compelled to do something about it because of this conviction and compassion.

Church, let’s ask God to break our hearts for the nations. May the Holy Spirit convict us and God’s love fill us with compassion. This is the time for us to rise up! We must be a church without walls, whose heart yearns for the nations to hear the gospel.

“We must be global Christians with a global vision because our God is a global God.”
