I don’t know about you, but I had a great time at last week’s night of prayer and worship. In case you missed it, for one night every quarter, the entire church will gather in unity for the purpose of seeking God through prayer and worship. This is something I’m personally very excited about because I know that God is directing us to draw near to Him.
This all started a few months ago when the Lord began to place within me a desire for us to pray and worship together as a church. Honestly, there isn’t a lack of prayer and worship here in FCBC. However, there is a need for the entire church to come together in unity for the purpose of prayer and worship. See, spending time in prayer and worship on a personal or even congregation level is great, but it’s not enough. There must be a gathering of the whole church family to pray and worship together as one. I believe that anyone who was there last week would testify that the presence of God was in the house, and we drew close to God as we interceded as a family.
But why prayer and worship?
Prayer and worship are the most fundamental forms of communication between us and God. Both involve us lifting our voices to God in a cry for more of Him in our lives. Sometimes we focus purely on just one or the other. We have prayer meetings where the focus is just on praying for specific items on the agenda, and we also have worship nights where the focus is just on soaking and seeking God through our music. But I believe that prayer and worship go hand-in-hand and shouldn’t be separated. It is through both our prayer and worship that we draw closer and closer to God. When we pray, we lift our voices and bring before God our desires and needs. When we worship God, we lift our voices in song and present ourselves before God in admiration of Him.
So, as we gather as a church to pray and worship God, I have one simple goal. I want to fill this house with our voices calling out to the Almighty God in song and petition. As we do that, I believe that God is pleased and will fill this house with His manifest presence.
“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”
