Singapore Our Home

Having just celebrated our 52nd National Day this week, my thoughts were on how rapidly Singapore has developed into a metropolis over the last 52 years, and what we will become as we continue to grow through prevailing winds of change sweeping across the world.

The serious challenges to the moral fibre of present-day Singapore require an intensity of prayer that is unprecedented. This is why for the past 20 odd years, Christians in Singapore have been participating in 40 days of prayer that culminate at the Day of His Power on the eve of Singapore’s National Day. As one, the objective is to offer a concerted evening of prayer to God to keep Singapore on track, and on target towards our God-given destiny for ourselves and Singapore! Our prayer focus for our nation is simple: we are praying for a mighty revival in all of Singapore’s churches, just like the mighty revival that took place in 1972 as a result of the faithful prayers of a group of Anglo-Chinese School boys!

Dear disciples, even though our 40 days of concerted prayers are over, let us continue to diligently pray according to God’s invitation in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

When you pray, know that your prayers are powerful because our Lord Jesus said, “whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 18:18) Over and above your personal prayer requests, let’s continue to pray two things for our nation: first, for righteousness in our nation and second, for good leaders in our government because “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) Pray specifically for wisdom and good judgement in all our current government officials so they will govern our land according to righteous principles.

I believe that as we, the church of Singapore, prayed at Day of His Power, His power was released upon all the Singapore churches to share and sow God’s love generously into the different communities in our nation, fulfilling Psalm 133:1: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
