One of the scariest and saddest pronouncements of Scripture is found in the first chapter of the book of Romans, in verses 24-28 (NKJV), “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness… For this reason God gave them up to vile passions… God gave them over to a debased mind.” As much as God loves us, there comes a time when He may give up and allow us to be drawn into the vicious cycle of spiritual uncleanness, vile passions and self-debasement. That is found in the preceding verses 21-23 (NKJV) which says, “because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.”
Over the past month, I have been preaching and uncovering the deception of a naturalistic worldview that refuses to acknowledge God as the intelligent and all-powerful Designer of the universe and the Creator of mankind. Throughout history, we observe that in spite of the glaring revelation of God Himself in all creation, some stubbornly chose to accept the eternal nature of the universe itself rather than the infinite wisdom of God as our divine Maker. In so doing, they have committed the sin of not giving glory to God and being thankful for the wonderful world He has created for us. As a result of their ungratefulness and refusal to give honour to God, they received the ultimate judgment of being given over to uncleanness, vile passions and a debased mind.
Church, let’s ask God daily to give us a heart of adoration and thankfulness towards Him for the manifold blessings He has bestowed upon us, because He is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end.
