Back To The Start

The G12 Asia Conference is right around the corner. In just two months, churches across Asia will gather in Singapore to receive a fresh outpouring from God for the fulfilment of His Great Commission. The theme for all G12 conferences around the world this year is “Back to the Start”. When I first heard of this theme, I honestly couldn’t make sense of it. I found myself asking God over and over what this meant, but it was only through time that God began to reveal it to me little by little.

As we entered into 2019, I repeatedly saw how God was bringing us back to the start. This was especially so with 幸福小组 (xing fu xiao zu). Through the pilot round, we found ourselves coming back to so many basics – body evangelism, sharing of testimonies, reaching out through our cell groups, making our cell groups vibrant, prayer, going door-to-door to get to know people in order to expand our oikos, and the list goes on.

In my own journey and preparation to lead our church, I found myself relooking at our history. The more I try to chart the future for our church, the more I find myself going back to our past. Something I’ve been working on in the last year or so was to revise our vision and mission statements, and our core values. The more I worked on this, the more I came back to the start – or back to our roots. I began to realise that whatever I penned down were the very things that made us FCBC all along.

Going back to the start isn’t a form of regression. It is a reminder from God to ground ourselves in the key foundations that made us a faith community. As we prepare ourselves for this new season ahead, I’m believing God for a renewal in our passion for Him and His gospel, and a renewal in our compassion for the lost. That is the start that we all need to come back to. I can’t wait to share more about this with all of you in due time. But for now, I just want to say this – it’s time for a renewal, and that renewal is to go back to the start.
