Dear family,
This past Sunday, being Resurrection Sunday, caused me to reflect on the cornerstone of our faith – our Lord’s resurrection. Death could not hold down our Lord Jesus. Three days after He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, He arose!
Our faith is founded upon our resurrected Lord, who appeared among His disciples and was seen by hundreds of others. Our resurrected Lord gave the early disciples the Great Commission to take the gospel throughout the world. And so, as present day disciples, we do not merely celebrate or commemorate Easter, but each of us has a mandate to proclaim the truth that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead.
Apostle Paul also made it clear to us that the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ comes as a comfort to us, believers, for His defeat of death is both a foretaste and a promise of our own resurrection by His power. “For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.” (1 Corinthians 15:53)
So, dear disciples, as we look back in thankfulness to that empty tomb, let us also look forward to the fulfillment of Christ’s promises in us, because Resurrection Sunday is also a time of preparation for our own resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a manifestation of Christ’s total victory over sin and death, and a promise that we too, as followers of Christ, have power over death, darkness and the things of this world. This is why the resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the very centre of the good news we share with our pre-believing family and friends.
Our Lord’s empty tomb is full of power. He rose from it and He will raise you up too! So often, when we experience failures and feel ‘dead’ or defeated, we must remember that Christ is with us, ready to raise us up and make us alive in Him. In the tomb, where all things seem bleak and lost, we can take heart for Christ has already won that battle. It is called resurrection power!
